Charge storage in a single molecule

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

With the tip of a Scanning Tunneling Microscope we are able to reversibly switch between two stable states a metal organic complex as shown in the scheme. The switch is due to the capture (or loss) of one electron and accompanied by a conformational change. Evidence of charge injection is given by STM topography and spectroscopy and non-contact Atomic Force Microscopy charge measurement.
